In the old days people used skis or reindeers with sledges for transportation during the winter. The Sámi sledge is called a gieris in lulesámi dialect. A gieris is built similar to a boat with a keel and a stem. It is made from birch and floats through the snow. A gieris has the perfect ecological shape!
