The arctic circle At the arctic circle situated just south of Jokkmokk by the lake Kierats you find our beautifully placed compound. In our café that is open during the summer you can buy arctic circle certificates and other souvenirs. You can also purchase fishing-permits valid in the Jokkmokk Jakt and Fiske area and hire a boat if you like to take a trip on the nearby lake. Simple caravan parks with electricity are available for hire near the café.

The arctic circle marks the border of the midnight sun. It´s position is not static, during 44 000 years it moves within a 180 km wide area. The position of the earth´s axis that varies due to influences from the sun, the moon and the planets is the reason for this. The year of 12 000 the arctic circle will have reached it´s northernmost postion, it will return to us here in Jokkmokk at the year of 22 000.
