Arctic char fishing on the border to the national park of Sarek
One of the most beautiful places in the mountains around Jokkmokk is Pietsjaure Sámi settlement. The lake offers fine fly-fishing and trolling. In Pietsjaure you can also go on a boat-trip with the Sámi Apmut-Erik Kuoljok. The settlement has a wood-fired sauna by a mountain brook, a perfect way to relax after a day's fishing.
|
Fishing has always been an important part of survival. The Sámi paid a large part of their tax with dried fish during Medieaval times. In the old days people boiled and ate the intestines of the
fish.

Brook angling
If you have never tried brook angling, it will be an experience, one way or the other! You mustn't suffer from fear of mosquitos, they are a part of the charm. If you can sneak up scilently you have a good chance to catch the shy trout and grayling that lurks in holes beside stones or hidden by the underbrush which hangs over the banks.
