The culling of the reindeer

During the month of September, before the stags enter their rut, the autumn culling takes place. The stags are large and fat at this particular time. Join us and experience this specific time of the Sámi reindeer herding year. The culling in this area normally lasts for two days and all the members of the Sámi families help out, from the youngest to the oldest.

You can make clothes from the reindeers fur and hide. From it´s sinews you can make thread to sew with. The traditional clothing of the Sámis is today mostly made from material, but the cut derives from how much of the reindeers skin you would need to make the clothes in question. Different Sámi areas has different traditional clothing. You can tell where a person wearing their traditional outfit originates from.
